Bumped, kicked, and shoved by unknown
strangers
With unsung victories and unshared plights,
Unpredictable, different, alien,
They push us to fear, to hate, to spite.
But acquaintances are also strangers
Thoughts secreted from the light.
With dreams and shames and sad regrets,
And emotions of the night.
Even to ourselves we're strangers.
Our minds recoil from true insight
Of the motivations for our actions
Or the reasons for our panicked fright.
Yet life's a process of discovery,
Connections forged, and truths revealed.
If we but risk ourselves to strangers
We may find the friends that fear concealed.
