"Bellyfish"

I dreamed of me,
And you and him,
In a house all our own.
You were playing "airplane",
And tagging along
In brotherly nuisance
And brown eyes,
Demanding
"Wait for me!"

I woke in contentment
As the sun rose,
I rubbed my warm tummy,
And talked,
To my brown-eyed bellyfish.
And whispered a prayer.
Please.

In a bathroom all alone,
At four in the morning,
With heat dripping down my thighs,
I talked to myself,
And whimpered a prayer.
Please, no.

I dreamed of you,
And him, and her-
My little ones who went before.
With wings all your own,
Tagging along.
Playing airplane in the sky.
Please don't fly too high.
Mama can't go yet.
Wait for me.
