Clothes Are Optional

Wait to hear once more a panicky voice
"Hey, I have no underwear."
So begins a weekly task
Separate whites from reds and blues
Toss in ancient washing machine
Add a cup of liquid Cheer, a cup of bleach
Hear it slosh and spin
Anxiously wait to add a capful of sweet smelling stuff
Toss to dryer select thirty minutes
Sigh once more when a beep is heard
Run downstairs to get the load that's dried
Carry up the stairs an armful of warm soft undies
Separate his from hers
Fold in thirds stack in piles
Place in dresser for each day's use
It's a chore, a boring chore
But gives those something to do on Mondays
Who otherwise would sit and dream
Of maids and butlers doing this
While sipping her fruit filled drinks,
Beneath the flowered beach umbrella
On that topical island where clothes are optional.
