In the light of day
darkness looms beyond the horizon |
Winds kick up twisting, shriveling |
tender limbs of ancient maple |
Robins blinded by sooty air - |
flutter - squawk - panic |
Farmer quit daily chores
rushes to gather tools |
Locking barn door, batten down hatches |
Prepared from past |
eruptions of earth's emotions |
Important lessons to ensure her livelihood
family gathers around tiny cellar |
Maiden lantern brightens the gloom |
songs weakly filter against dusty space |
Tranquillity splintered once more |
Thundered neighing livestock
frightful of such storms |
Mill together offer protection |
as the twister suctions all in its grasp |
Depositing them neatly |
distorted bowling pins against a red silo |
